The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the 12 college and university teams who won Phase 2 of the 2024 Collegiate Wind Competition. These teams will advance to the third and final phase of CWC 2024 and will attend the competition's final event at the American Cleanpower Association's CLEANPOWER Conference and Exhibition this spring.
The 2024 Collegiate Wind Competition Phase 2 winners represent:
California State University Maritime Academy
The Cal Maritime Wind Team is now in its 10th year participating in the CWC! This team envisions a future where maritime fleets are powered by wind-generated electricity.
Texas Tech University with South Plains College
The Techsan Wind Team, a longtime CWC competitor, has always emphasized community outreach, even partnering with youth organizations to raise awareness of career opportunities in wind energy.
California Polytechnic State University
The Cal Poly Wind Power team, now in its third year of competing, is embracing their school’s motto of "learn by doing" throughout their participation in the CWC.
The Pennsylvania State University
The Wind PSU team has competed in every CWC since 2014! Their focus? Applying classroom knowledge to address engineering challenges, forging strong team bonds, and promoting wind energy awareness at their school and in their community.
The GSOE Wind team is competing in the CWC for the first time in 2024! They joined to expose members to all the career potential in renewable energy and to foster community interest in wind energy.
University of Colorado Boulder
Back for their third year in CWC, the CU Boulder Wind Team spreads the word about wind energy through events, partnerships, outreach, and their Get Blown Away podcast.
The Hopkins Student Wind Energy Team has won awards in all three of the CWC events they’ve participated in! Their 45-member team shares a collective passion for promoting sustainability.
The Comet Wind team draws motivation from the groundbreaking wind energy research already happening at UT Dallas. They’re using this year's CWC to further develop their technical and leadership skills.
Wildcat Wind Power, which started as a student club at Kansas State University, are back for their tenth CWC in 2024!
University of Wisconsin—Madison
CWC participants since 2016, the WiscWind team hopes that every member will walk away from the competition with hands-on, practical experience in the wind energy industry!
The 2024 competition marks the Rice Wind Energy Team's first year participating in the CWC! This tight-knit team, who participated as a learn-along team in 2023, shares a passion for making our planet a cleaner, more livable place.

Made up of students from two returning schools, the Blue Ridge Wind Collaborative hopes each institution's unique skills will help them execute thorough, advanced projects for each part of the competition!
