As drivers compete to get the fastest times, manufacturers are also competing to develop the most innovative clean energy technology solutions to help their teams demonstrate the highest performance with the lowest environmental impact. Often referred to as "the race within the race," the Green Racing Challenge award has a scoring system in which the smallest score wins because the goal is to provide the best racing in the world with the smallest environmental impact.
The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship partners with Green Racing to provide this award at the end of each race and to the overall winner at the end of each race season. Currently, only the Grand Touring Le Mans (GTLM) class competes for the Green Racing Challenge award in this series. This award was previously known as the Michelin Green X Challenge under the former American Le Mans Series.
