Portfolio Energy Performance

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Spokane's portfolio consists of more than 20 buildings and 1 million square feet. Spokane County has completed several lighting retrofit projects totaling 185,000 square feet of building space. In addition, Heating, ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) retrofit projects have totaled 165,000 square feet of space through 2013. Currently, a project is underway upgrading lighting, HVAC and water using systems involving 420,000 square feet of multi-use space for Spokane County.

Energy Performance by Facility

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Spokane County has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 10% at 8 of its facilities. There are 8 facilities that have experienced an increase in Source EUI. These facilities have been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.

Identifying Opportunities for Improvement

Facility-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Spokane County's portfolio consists of facilities with a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which are from 30 to 350 kBtu/sq. ft. The facilities located near or below the 0% axis may present opportunities for further savings.
