Portfolio Energy Performance
Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. IHG's portfolio consists of over 100 buildings and 13 million square feet. Hotels utilize IHG Green Engage, IHG's online sustainability system, designed to help hotels manage and minimise their energy consumption. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing lighting retrofits across all facilities, HVAC upgrades at the three largest facilities, and an energy awareness program focused on low-cost opportunities for savings.
Energy Performance by Facility
Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. IHG has achieved an energy performance improvement of 6% or more at 30 of its facilities. There are 43 facilities that have experienced an increase in Source EUI, mostly due to renovations. The facilities that are not undergoing renovations have been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.
Identifying Opportunities for Improvement
Facility-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. IHG's portfolio consists mostly of facilities with baseline EUIs ranging from 100 to 250 kBtu/sq. ft. More than half of the facilities have shown energy improvement since 2010. The facilities located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.
