Impacts of Energy Efficiency on the Financial Performance of Commercial Buildings

Impacts of Energy Efficiency on the Financial Performance of Commercial Buildings

May 21, 2014
1:00 PM-2:30 PM EDT

Presenter: Elena Alschuler (DOE)

The Department of Energy conducted a review of existing market research on the impact of Energy Efficiency and Green Labels on building financial performance. This webinar will review the results of the review and discuss areas that have been identified for further research.

The goal of the effort was to determine the extent to which empirical evidence currently available to the market demonstrates that efficiency contributes to overall building financial performance. The research review covers a range of factors impacted by efficiency, including operating expenses, rents, vacancy, sales prices and other drivers of Net Operating Income and Asset Value, and presents ranges of typical premiums associated with green labels. Over 50 relevant studies from the market were reviewed and compiled into this summary.
