Strategic Energy Planning

The Strategic Energy Planning team will equip participants with the knowledge, tools, peer-exchange insight, and expert feedback needed to develop strategic energy plans for their communities. Participants will be guided through each step of the plan development process through a comprehensive planning guide, associated tools, and a series of monthly web-based meetings. Where possible, participants will execute the planning steps as they are discussed in team meetings. This will enable the group to benefit from dynamic peer exchange regarding on-the-ground challenges, solutions, and unique approaches to the planning process. DOE and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will provide facilitation and coaching throughout.

The Strategic Energy Planning team will have its first kick-off meeting in April 2013 and future 2013 meeting dates can be found below. Contact us to join the Strategic Energy Planning team or for additional information.

Guide to Community Energy Strategic Planning
The guide outlines a step-by-step process for creating a robust strategic energy plan for your government and community that can help save money, create local jobs, and improve our national security. Along with the guide, this site offers tools and tips to complete each step and highlights examples from successful planning efforts around the country. Local governments and community stakeholders can use the community energy strategic planning (CESP) framework to build on initial energy successes by moving from single projects and programs to a comprehensive, long-term energy strategy that delivers benefits for years to come.
