Incorporate data access provisions as part of lease requirements for multi-tenant buildings

Many building owners experience difficulty collecting complete, whole-building energy data, especially in multi-tenant properties. However, building owners and managers can work with their tenants to better monitor building performance by implementing approaches for sharing energy usage information. In fact, Brandywine Realty Trust includes a clause in new and re-negotiated leases that requires tenants to either submit monthly utility data or allows the company to install sub-meters in tenant areas if Brandywine is not already receiving such data.
